Project

Northern Campus Development

Address:  Tauranga Hospital, Cameron Road, Tauranga

Cost:

Client: Pathlab NZ

This project consisted a 5 storey, base build and associated fitouts of laboratories and was completed over a 14 month period. In addition, there was involvement 3 months prior to construction to coordinate the design, consents, exploratory and enabling works.

This is one of the largest and hi-tech facilities of its type in Australasia so the building had to make a statement, to reflect the nature of the business with its specialist facilities. The construction, driven by developer Paul Williams, was in conjunction with main contractor McMillan and Lockwood. It stands tall at five storeys high. The building itself is 6800m2. Pathlab has a long and successful history with McMillan and Lockwood. The company has completed a number of joint ventures together including Pathlabs and a medical centre in Hamilton. Building Pathlab at Tauranga Hospital was challenging at times, as it was designed and constructed throughout six stages, all the while undergoing council process. As a point of difference and added value to the project all precast panels were manufactured by McMillan and Lockwood off site and were transported as required.

The project was awarded a silver medal by the Master Builders for Commercials Projects in recognition of excellence in workmanship, construction practices and innovation.
